Tèxtils.CAT, together with the Terrassa City Council, the Terrassa Health Consortium (CST), the Terrassa Mutual Insurance Company, and the Terrassa Nursing School (EUIT), collaborates with the Textile Engineering Research Group of INTEXTER from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) on a local cooperation project aimed at promoting and coordinating the manufacturing of protective masks for COVID-19.
The project also aims to inform society and all groups needing different types of masks and to explore avenues for reuse and/or recycling. It addresses not only current needs but also future ones, helping companies consolidate, increase, or redirect their production.
As part of the project, materials for manufacturing masks that can be produced in Terrassa and its surroundings will be identified. Technical requirements for masks will be assessed and training will be provided to ensure they meet commercialization standards. This project is part of the competitive territorial specialization linked to the health cluster and applied health technologies. It also aligns with the circular economy and sustainability strategies of the participating institutions and the city.
