Tèxtils.CAT is part of the consortium that will carry out the LIFE-CIRTECHTEX project, focused on the implementation of circular economy processes to reduce textile waste in the manufacture of personal protective equipment. The project kick-off meeting was held on September 28 at the facilities of the project coordinator, the cluster member company Marina Textil.

The LIFE-CIRTECHTEX project, co-financed by the LIFE program of the European Commission, aims to adopt a circular economy approach to drastically reduce the generation of technical textile waste and recycle it into high-quality personal protective fabrics through a waste collection methodology (pre and post-consumer) and recycling.

Over the next three years, the consortium will study the waste generated along the manufacturing chain of personal protective equipment, specifically in the case of Marina Textil and its partner companies, with the intention of defining, classifying, and reintroducing them into the process. Once a new product is obtained that is made with a percentage of recycled material, its environmental characteristics will be studied.

The LIFE-CIRTECHTEX project consortium is made up of various companies from the textile value chain, from yarn manufacturing to final product analysis, coming from three European countries.

Another cluster member is also part of the consortium, the technological center LEITAT, along with the companies Blaufabric, Fontfilva, and Grau S.A. (all located in Catalonia), Fil Man Made (Italy), and Tranemo (Sweden).

Given its prior experience in participating in LIFE projects, Tèxtils.CAT will support the coordination, communication, and dissemination of the project results.
