MATERIALS AND SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS

The project aims to develop safe and sustainable coating products to replace compounds containing fluorinated substances (PFAS) in both the packaging and textile sectors, with a target environmental impact improvement of over 25%. Once the products are developed, data will be analyzed to calculate environmental impacts and toxicity, and a certification and regulatory roadmap will be developed to identify future regulatory needs and knowledge gaps.

The project’s objective is to conduct an analysis of the environmental and toxicological impact of the best available technologies that serve as alternatives to toxic flame retardants used in textile finishing processes, particularly those containing halogens. It aims to demonstrate the best alternatives that are less toxic and have a lower environmental impact while still maintaining the required properties of the fabric.
