Tèxtils.CAT and the Packaging Cluster publish a guide for industrial symbiosis between the textile sector and the packaging sector, developed as part of the PACTEX project, which presents innovative proposals and measures to reuse and reduce industrial waste.

The PACTEX project, driven by both clusters, references the framework of industrial ecology and industrial symbiosis models to achieve a transition towards a circular, low-carbon economy within the clusters. This initiative has received technical support from the Leitat Technological Center and backing from the Waste Agency of Catalonia.

The project has analyzed industrial waste from the companies in the clusters to promote effective material use, with innovative proposals and measures for reusing and reducing industrial waste. At the same time, the guide helps raise awareness in the industry, fostering the circular economy to transition through industrial symbiosis towards the objectives set by the European Commission for 2030.

The work carried out has analyzed the waste and raw materials used in the production processes of the companies represented by the entities, which have been used to define synergy proposals that have been ultimately presented. Thus, collaboration with 20 companies has allowed for the identification of 10 solutions that are applicable and viable for both sectors on an industrial scale.

The guide includes these new solutions and has already enabled the implementation of one of them in another project approved within the framework of the circular economy call from the Waste Agency, in which the company Industrial Algodonera-LIASA will provide its waste thread generated during the industrial process for NG Plastics to use as raw material to manufacture a new product.
