The project, which is supported by the Catalan Waste Agency (ARC) within the framework of the aid for projects promoting the circular economy, and with the collaboration of Tèxtils.CAT, will apply an innovative recycling technology.

With the implementation of this project, Etisilk reaffirms its historical commitment to sustainability, transforming what was previously a waste into a strategic raw material for the future. 

RETEXPO highlights the role of Tèxtils.CAT as a catalyst for collaborative innovation; it exemplifies how synergies between cluster members are key to transforming the sector, allowing to address complex challenges that, individually, would be unattainable. Building on the work carried out on May at the ALBA Synchrotron, this session brought together key players from the Catalan ecosystem to address industrial challenges. Twelve Tèxtils.CAT members participated.

ECOFILTER demonstrates how even highly specialized textile manufacturing can integrate recycling into production without compromising performance or quality.

During the project, FINSA Job Group completed the full cycle of collecting, recycling, and re-manufacturing functional filter clothes with its production waste. Factory-wide protocols were implemented to segregate offcuts, defective rolls, and trimmings from the calendaring, quality control, laser cutting, and shipping departments. Over 9.5 tons of clean PP waste were inventoried and reprocessed resulting in monofilament yarns containing 8% recycled PP.

FINSA Job Group aims to achieve 100% recycled content in polypropylene filter fabrics, supported by further process optimization, certification, and client validation. The company plans to scale production and strengthen its circular design strategy as part of its long-term sustainability roadmap.

This is the circular economy at work. WoolWalls turns a low-value rural by-product into a premium material for hotels, hospitals, offices, and cultural spaces 

Local Ripollesa wool was collected and prepared, spun into yarns, and converted into woven and nonwoven layers. A digital product trace—reinforced by physical markers—was embedded across the value chain. Multilayer panels were laminated with a peel-and-stick system for rapid installation, then validated through accredited testing. 

RUTEX is a Spanish textile manufacturer with over 30 years of experience, specializing in sustainable, organic, and recycled fabrics. Founded in Sabadell, they offer vertically integrated services for fashion and technical textiles. Their mission blends family tradition with innovation and environmental responsibility.

This edition’s guiding theme was “The challenges of garment durability”. As active partners in the ecosystem, Tèxtils.CAT was there to connect with its members and key collaborators.

The agenda provided a comprehensive look at the industry’s challenges. It featured insightful presentations on INTEXTER’s projects, dynamic round table discussions on key issues (with the participation of our members LEITAT and Eurecatand a strategic keynote from Lutz Walter (Textile ETP).

The conclusion of the project materializes with the publication of the strategic study on the definition of the Catalan circular hub. This document was developed as a roadmap for the Circular hub by Tèxtils.CAT, as the cluster circular economy platform created launched in September 2024. 

The study offers a complete diagnosis of the sector and identifies a set of priorities and actions to be further developed including: 

• Identification of waste and opportunities: A detailed analysis of the pre-consumer waste generated by Catalan companies of advanced textile materials. These insights are essential for efficient planning of recycling solutions and include information on sustainability projects and implementations by the cluster and its members. 

• Analysis of the regulatory framework: A comprehensive review of European, Spanish and Catalan legislation on textile waste. The report identifies future forecasts and regulatory opportunities that can favour the circular transition. 

• Definition of the hub model: Practical information on the operation of the Circular hub by Tèxtils.CAT, a model designed with a clear vocation of replicability for other industrial sectors. 

According to Tèxtils.CAT, the materialization of this circular hub has the potential to overcome existing barriers in waste management, generate new value opportunities for the industry and contribute significantly to reducing the environmental impact of the sector. With this initiative, the cluster seeks to position Catalonia as a leading territory in the production of advanced textile materials under a circular economy paradigm.

The event brought together experts and stakeholders from multiple sectors to foster dialogue, share challenges, and explore innovative solutions that support circularity in the textile industry.

Eight members of Tèxtils.CAT actively participated, contributing with valuable insights and proposing strategies to close the loop on polymeric textile materials.

The meeting was a clear demonstration of how intercluster collaboration can accelerate sustainable transformation and innovation across industries.

The session featured the LIFE-CIRTECHTEX project, led by cluster member Marina Textil, focused on applying circular economy processes to reduce textile waste in the production of PPEs.
