The green transition is one of the strategic priorities of Tèxtils.CAT, and one way to promote it is by supporting partners in their initiatives related to the circular economy. The cluster has been participating in and leading projects for years to promote sustainability in various areas, such as promoting the substitution of hazardous chemicals, encouraging the use of more sustainable packaging, supporting the education of students and workers in the sector on sustainability-related topics, etc.

Eleven partners of the cluster have received co-funding from the Waste Agency of Catalonia to initiate a project within the 2022 Circular Economy Promotion call: E. Cima, S.A.U, Finish S.A, Finsa – Job Group, Francisco Pagès Valentí, S.A., Glasscom, S.L., Marina Race, S.L., Rutex, S.L.U., Technitiger, S.L., Texfire Tèxtils Tècnics, S.L., Triturats La Canya, S.A., and Velutex Flock, S.A.

Tèxtils.CAT will also carry out a project within this call, titled TEX-r-HUB – RECYCLING HUB FOR TECHNICAL TEXTILES IN CATALONIA. This project aims to develop a sectoral study to promote the circular economy in the advanced textile materials sector in Catalonia, connecting the various companies in the ecosystem to facilitate the circularity of the sector.

The main actions to be carried out include creating a database of companies and agents in the sector involved in the recycling value chain of advanced textile materials, identifying the recycling technical capabilities of each, the existing challenges for scaling them, and growth opportunities. The cluster will invite various sector agents to a series of co-creation sessions to identify future challenges and lines of action to scale the network into a recycling hub for advanced textile materials.

These projects once again demonstrate the cluster’s interest and potential to contribute to circularity and the fight against climate change.
