The closing event of the CIRCULAR.Tèxtils.cat project was held, coordinated by Tèxtils.CAT and the FITEX Foundation, with the support of the Catalonia Waste Agency and in collaboration with ELISAVA, INTEXTER-UPC, and MODACC. The project focuses on utilizing textile waste from companies in the advanced textile materials sector.
The goal of the event was to showcase the most significant results achieved by the project and to provide the developed tools for those who may find them useful, such as design students and designers.
Thus, the event served to present the library of waste samples, which will now be available in physical format at both ELISAVA and INTEXTER-UPC and at FITEX. The library will also be available on the project’s website Marketplace. The project concludes with a study defining these textile wastes and presenting some examples of their application, collected during the Hackathon held last year.
The event, held at the ELISAVA headquarters in Barcelona, began with a brief summary of the project’s actions and the current legislative situation regarding textile waste, led by Clara Mallart from the Sustainability and Circular Economy Area of FITEX.
Following this, Dr. Marta González, Coordinator of the Materials and Sustainability Area at ELISAVA, summarized the projects being carried out by the school in terms of materials. To provide a more specific view of the textile materials around which the project revolves, Dr. Marta Casadesús, project manager of Tèxtils.CAT, detailed their main characteristics.
Proline Barcelona, a member of Tèxtils.CAT specializing in the manufacture of pressotherapy equipment, conducted a presentation to explain its participation in the project, using its production process as an example, how it generates textile waste, and what projects it plans to recycle it. Some students who participated in the Hackathon also shared their experiences and showcased their projects using recycled textile materials as the basis for their designs.
The event concluded with an open question session and the opportunity to physically consult the materials library.
