Promoting the circular economy and sustainability in the textile sector, particularly in the field of technical textiles, has been one of Tèxtils.CAT’s priorities in recent years.

Thanks to the experience gained from various projects and the trust of the cluster’s member companies, five Circular Economy Promotion projects were presented to the 2019 call of the Catalan Waste Agency, which have been approved and will start in January.

Two of the projects are coordinated by Tèxtils.CAT, in collaboration with the LEITAT Technology Center, to develop sectoral guides and communication activities aimed at implementing sustainable measures focused on the circular economy:

  • SUSTEX – Promotion of the substitution of hazardous chemicals in the textile finishing industry.
  • CIRCULARTECH – Study to promote the circular economy in the technical textiles sector.

The other three projects are led by three cluster members: Technitiger, Etisilk, and Hilaturas Arnau, with the aim of analyzing individual improvement actions in the sustainability and circularity of their products and services. Tèxtils.CAT will collaborate on various tasks within the framework of these three projects.

The first two companies will develop new products from the waste generated in their production processes. Hilaturas Arnau, continuing its philosophy of offering innovative yarns to the market, will develop a range of biodegradable yarns by blending environmentally friendly materials.
