Tèxtils.CAT, together with the Packaging Cluster and in collaboration with the LEITAT Technological Center, has initiated the TEXSOSPACK project, co-financed by the Waste Agency of Catalonia under the Circular Economy Promotion program. The project aims to promote the implementation of sustainable packaging in the advanced textile materials sector.

TEXSOSPACK will help to enhance coordination and communication between the packaging and advanced textile materials sectors, establishing and strengthening this key alliance for waste prevention, extending the useful life cycle of the materials used, and aiding in the decarbonization of the productive economy.

As a starting point, an analysis of the state of the art of good practices in sustainable primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging across various sectors will be conducted. In parallel, the main challenges in the advanced textile materials sector will be collected and the most common and priority ones will be identified. With this information, an inter-cluster session will be organized between companies in the sector and packaging companies to present the challenges and propose solutions through a collaborative working dynamic.

From the proposed solutions, four will be selected for an environmental assessment. Finally, with all the generated information, a study will be prepared aiming to serve as a guide on how to implement sustainable packaging in companies in the advanced textile materials sector, which could also be extrapolated to other companies in the textile sector and even to other sectors.

The goal of TEXSOSPACK is to facilitate the green transition for the advanced textile materials and packaging sectors in Catalonia, both predominantly composed of SMEs, generating new business opportunities to enhance their competitiveness, based on close collaboration and reducing the environmental impact of their services and products.
