Tèxtils.CAT has published a state-of-the-art report on low environmental impact fibers.
The 45-page document provides an overview of the main characteristics, properties, and producers of natural fibers from plant sources (cotton, flax, jute, etc.) and animal sources (wool, alpaca), organic chemical fibers from natural polymers (PLA, alginate, bamboo viscose, orange, mint, milk, etc.), and synthetic polymers (recycled polyester, etc.).
This exclusive study for cluster members was prepared by Dr. Marta Casadesús and Dr. Ariadna Detrell, Project Manager and Cluster Manager of Tèxtils.CAT, respectively.
The study is part of the sustainability strategy that the cluster has pursued for the past six years through various projects and initiatives focused on:
- Promoting eco-design through practical case studies (ECODISTEX).
- Supporting the replacement of hazardous chemicals in finishing processes (FLAREX, MIDWOR, SUSTEX).
- Identifying barriers to circular economy practices within the sector and designing approaches to overcome them (CIRCULARTECH).
- Creating opportunities for industrial symbiosis (PACThttps://www.textils.cat/?p=5161EX).
- Providing international visibility to cluster members by showcasing their experiences at global events.
Thanks to these initiatives and personalized support from the cluster team, several member companies have launched their own circular economy projects.
